Save the Date

Open House: Cork, 21 September

Yesterday they poured concrete. Today I ordered house warming invitations. Date on invitations: 21 September.

This may well be foolhardy but I’m 100% comitted to moving into the new house by the 14th of September, and 100% committed to throwing an open house to warm said house. The 21st not only gives us enough time to unpack some boxes and find the couch, but is also our wedding anniversary. While we’re not particularly sentimental about such things, it seemed a good target date for Project House Warming Party.

And so, we’re having a party, and you are invited. By “you” I actually mean you. If I’ve met you or swapped email with you, you’re invited. If you follow me on Twitter or stalk me from the weedy looking shrubs at the back of our current house, you’re invited. If you’ve never heard of me before today but will be in Cork on the 21st of September, you’re invited.

There are two caveats though. One, I need your address (that links to a form that goes into a database for label printing) to send you an actual invitation. I believe in real life dead tree invitations for real life parties; they are different than conferences or events or work dos, plus I don’t have a lot of excuses for sending pretty printed materials – I am actually aching to use stamps here.

Two, the invitation states that come hell, high water, or wet paint, we are having this party. There may well be wet paint on the walls, or possibly no paint at all. I don’t care, and neither should you. Regardless of the state of the house, there will be wine, beer, fabulous food, and the best brownies in the world. Who cares about paint?

So, really – please give me your address if you’d like to come. Don’t be shy. It’s an open house and we’d be delighted to have you there to help us warm our new abode. Plus, brownies! What’s not to love?

    OK just to clarify because all of Twitter is pointing and laughing at me: they did not pour concrete to lay the foundations for a house. They poured concrete to replace an existing floor in an existing house we’re renovating. I’m not completely crazy regarding this move in date, really!

    We need dry concrete, new floors, insulation and new plasterboard and then we’re in good shape. A month is more than enough. It’s going to be just fine. Honest!

    ROFL. I was just kidding. But hey, no complaints! :) Am trying out some menu ideas on Tuesday. There will be reviews and pics with my new DSLR which should be here by then. In-laws have their uses. But think Smoked salmon/cream cheese profiteroles and sushi squares. Easy as hell, but look like you spent all day! :D

    Miss Lucy! You should totally come and bring any short people you fancy – there will be other short people as well. Plus, you and Maz can talk knitting. There are direct flights from Edinburgh to Cork, too, so it’s really easy (at least on this end!)

    Hmmm, I just wonder if I’ll be available the 21st given college is starting back up the week after (Orientation Week), and on-campus accommodation opens again the week beforehand…

    I may be too busy meself sort-of moving house around then… but the invitation is very kind, and I love people who get web developer discounts on wine because it saves me having to do special pleading for blogger discounts here. Will have to find out whether Bubble Brothers have a web developer discounts package to offer, though: goodness knows our web sore needeth development.

    Well, of all the travel companies who owe me bigtime for all of my employer/clients’ money I’ve spent with them, none are prepared to convey me to Cork or allow me to reside there for a night or two.

    BA, BMI, Marriott and ICHotels groups all a big fat FAIL.

    And Aer Arann ain’t cheap at this notice.

    So can you hold a re-do for your other wedding anniversary?
