Dog Sitting for Cash, Anyone? (Sorted!)

Does anyone know of someone who might be available to dog sit / house sit this weekend in Cork City in exchange for cold hard cash?

We are going to the Irish Blog Awards in Dublin on Saturday and need someone to look after our shy, sweet, un-slobbery 45lb boxer while we are away, from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.

Ideally this would be in our house in Cork City, which is very central and has laptops, WiFi, Sky and TiVo. You just need to walk the dog three times and feed her. She will ignore you completely, and you get to watch loads of telly or do lots of studying, writing, programming or whatever and sleep in our very comfy guestroom.

In a pinch, we would board her with someone at their home as long as there are no other dogs – not because she’s aggressive, but because she’s scared of other dogs. She likes kids, however!

If you or anyone you know would be interested in this gig, please email me at never mind.

Update: Thanks to the power of the interpipes, we are all sorted for dog sitting. Bernie Goldbach hooked me up with the lovely, local Tara and  she’s agreed to be ignored by the hound in exchange for euros. Hurrah!

May I borrow Eimear’s photo and pitch her needs on my blog too? Your is better than the one I have with John in it.

Go for it! She weighs a good amount more than when you met her then, too. Thanks a lot, Bernie.

The originals are here, and there are tons since we do nothing but take photos of the dog. We are lame. She is not :)

Thanks for that. I didn’t want someone thinking they were signing up for nanny duties with a lonely Scot and that might be the first impression gained from the shot I have.

Aww, she looks so sweet, and I love her collar. Its a little like my dog’s, though his reminds of me of a Kabbalah red string thingy, and I’m wondering if he wants a Kabbalah name like Madonna has.
Best of luck with the housesitting and I hope you have stacks of fun in Dublin.

Thanks, she really is sweet, she’s just had a traumatic life and is really nervous around new people.

Her collar was very swanky indeed and even had a hilarious faux diamond buckle, but it reached the end of it’s natural lifespan. She’s got a boring one now but I love buying stupid things for the dog. @Handelaar’s only rule is: “I am not walking a dog with a pink collar.”

No doubt she’ll be very stylish again in the future!

Any other weekend…. (actually keep that thought in your pocket!!) and you know I could go walk her with the mothership… there’s a sight…

Aw, I was irrationally worried about the dog, glad you got someone for her. She looks so sweet; other than the fact that my parents in Ballincollig have three dogs, (and the fact that I’m an internet stranger) I would totally have volunteered them for the job ;-)
I always worry when people say they are looking for dog sitters, I get anxious on behalf of the dog. What a weirdo, I know.

/waves hi. She really is the cutest! Great to meet you at the awards!

It was great to meet you, too, missus! I can’t believe that with the number of people I met, there were so many people I didn’t manage to meet! Wow that was a lot of folks.

Eater’s Regret, the most amazing thing is that the dog appeared to LIKE her dog sitter. She sat downstairs with her instead of hiding upstairs. It’s a huge compliment to the tremendous Tara :)

    Dear Sabrina,

I have to ask, how did you get fixed up with a dog sitter? We live north of Dublin in County Dublin and are in the same boat – that is to find a dog sitter.

We probably have a slightly harder task as we have 5 working labradors and 1 cocker spaniel pup – not an easy undertaking.

    Any suggestions are most welcome!

    HI Allie –

I let everyone I know, know that we were looking to hire a dog sitter (email, Twitter, blog post) and was eventually hooked up with the friend of a friend.

In your case, you might try GumTree, Boards.ie, and your local paper. Also ask your vet!

  14. Allie says:

Thanks Sabrina for the info and advice. Well done on the award!!

  15. Gary says:

Do you think that dog sitter would be available? I need someone to look after my mutt for a week

    Hello all dog-owners,

I am a dog-lover living in Cork city and would love to walk/look after your dogs if and when you need me to.

Contact me to have a chat about it!

    Best,

    Deirdre
