Jesus in His Crib? WTF?

Yes, possibly I did get a little carried away with the graphic for this entry, but this is seriously confounding me.
Last night on Nationwide there was a piece on a man who restores statues for churches and, err, those manger scenes you let live goats wander though or whatever. They kept talking about repainting these statues and placing them in their cribs.
Jesus was in the crib. Mary was in the crib. Joseph was in the crib, as were some astonishingly ugly donkeys that look like lawn gnomes gone horribly wrong. But they were just placed in these garden shed things. There were no cots, either, which is what a crib changes its name to when it gets posh and moves to Europe.
I suspect this is one of those peculiar Irish things like when my first flat here came with a hot press and I thought that meant a fancy iron. Or when my butcher asked me if I had a parson’s cover and I didn’t want to out myself as not being Catholic so I just said yes. (I have no idea what a parson’s cover is, but I used aluminum foil and my not-kosher pork roast was fine. Thank you for asking.)
So I really need someone to explain WTF a crib is in this context, please.
And for today’s bonus question: why isn’t WordPress sending out images in my RSS feeds? It sends Mulley’s images in posts! Why not my images, damn it?
It’s because I’m mocking Jesus, isn’t it?

16.12.2007, 5:37 amI think you’re confusing “crib” with “manger”, Sabrina. AFAIK, the crib is the actual cot/bed thing and the manger (which sounds like it could be Dundalk-ese for a “lady of the night”, but isn’t) is the actual cattle shed.
I beg to be corrected though.

The term crib seems, in this context, to cover the entire nativity scene – i.e. a stable or shack in which animals reside.

19.12.2007, 2:33 pmIt’s less a web server and more of a Tardis, really. Small tear in the fabric of time and space, nothing to worry about!
Paul, honestly, it was all cribs all the time, but I think Dermot has it and it means manger/creche/baby Jesus cow shed. I like the Dundalk definition though. That would be a very different magazine cover, however…
